The Sibford community came together for a Meeting for Worship led by Wanying, a returning student on the Sibford immersion programme who also joined us last summer. Having now been back with us for two weeks, Wanying confidently took the lead, supported by her fellow boarders, Barth (Year 13) and Oliver (Year 9), and assisted by Bunny, Head of Boarding, to share the traditions and significance of Chinese New Year.
Together, Wanying, Barth and Oliver delivered a thoughtful and engaging session that introduced pupils and staff to the customs, festivities and cultural importance of the celebration. They spoke about family reunion dinners, red envelopes, decorations, and togetherness that sits at the heart of the festival.
The boarders also shared how they personally celebrate Chinese New Year with their families at home in China. Their stories helped the Sibford community gain a deeper understanding of the celebration, while highlighting the importance of family, gratitude and new beginnings.
As a returning immersion student, Wanying showed impressive confidence and leadership, embodying the welcoming and inclusive spirit of the Sibford community. With the encouragement of Barth and Oliver and the guidance of Bunny, she led the Meeting for Worship with warmth and enthusiasm, creating a supportive and inclusive space for cultural exchange.
The session was both educational and uplifting, showcasing the richness of diversity within our boarding community. It was a joyful opportunity for Sibford pupils to learn more about Chinese New Year, while celebrating the traditions and experiences that make our international community so special.
